“The picturesque islands and friendly local people always make for a truly relaxing escape,” she says.

Her favourite destination however, is the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, where you’re also guaranteed beautiful beaches and plenty of sunshine. Step away from the beaches, and there are a host of fascinating manmade and natural wonders to discover, from ancient temples to refreshing cenotes.

Lisa’s most memorable travel experience took place a little further south, where she found herself sitting atop a temple in Tikal, Guatamala, gazing across the top of the rainforest canopy. This became her ‘happy place’.

Small group tours are among Lisa’s favourite ways to travel, as you can see so much in a short time, with no time wasted. Plus, with adventure travel tours, like those offered by Intrepid or Tucan Travel, the small-group experience is just like travelling with friends.

Lisa is passionate about encouraging the next generation of travellers. “Develop a love of travel in your kids by thinking outside the box. Don’t just go to Bali and Europe, take them to lesser visited places, such as Cambodia or Mexico for that little bit of added adventure,” she says.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Lisa replied, “It’s like you get to travel the world all year round, as you live vicariously through your clients.”

She recalls a particularly complex South America trip she put together for a client. “I finally got their flight itinerary to work, which would never have been possible for them to do online. On their return they brought me a bunch of flowers and sat down to tell me all about it, like we were friends – it’s what makes my job so special,” says Lisa.
