“Every enquiry and every client are so different, and that’s what I love about my job,” says Rebecca at Travel Associates Runaway Bay. “The excitement of my own travels actually drew me into this career, so I could share my experiences with others and grow my knowledge.”
Rebecca has a Diploma in Travel & Tourism and over 23 years’ experience as her clients’ “holiday fairy” - ensuring their trips are always as magical as they can be and go off without a hitch. Having travelled to over 27 countries so far, she’s no stranger to many parts of the world and is always happy to share her recommendations. From the Bahamas to Belgium, the UK to the USA, and Vietnam to Vanuatu, she’s very well-travelled.
She’s also a specialist on Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and the South Pacific, and is a Family Holiday Specialist, Luxury Specialist, Rail Specialist and River Cruise Specialist.
So what are her top three destinations? “New York City and Canada for the incredible scenery, and Japan for the food, culture and east-meets-west feel. And there are so many ways to see Japan now - cruise, rail, ski, on tour or all on your own - it’s just fabulous.”
With a family of her own, Rebecca has also become quite passionate about family holidays. “I love travelling with my children and seeing their wonder at the world. I always tell people do it now. Because soon enough your children will fly the coop, so do it while they’re young and still enjoy spending lots of time with you!”
Rebecca says there’s a real trend in multigenerational travel. “We’re doing lots of multigenerational itineraries now - including grandparents who want to take their grandchildren on holidays and leave the parents at home!”
“I recently put together a tailor made itinerary to Kenya and Tanzania for a grandmother and her five grandchildren. It was so diverse including Giraffe Manor, volunteering at local schools and working on organic farms.”
Wondering where’s good to go with kids? “Cruising is a must with children because it’s so easy. Also the South Pacific and Southeast Asia are wonderful as they’re close to fly to, along with the accommodation and cultural factor.”
Wherever you go and whoever you take with you, “travel insurance is everything,” she points out. “And eat the local food. Immerse yourself in the local culture. Take lots of pictures. Cherish every moment. And pack light!”

What is the most amazing experience you have created for a client?
I once created a bespoke multi-generational family safari in Africa, complete with private guides, volunteering in the local schools, and a stay at Giraffe Manor.
What is your number one travel tip?
Plan your travel with flexibility. Have must-see spots but leave room for spontaneity. This way, you can be open to local recommendations, discover hidden gems, and include time to relax.
What are your favourite destinations and why?
Japan is one of my new favourite travel destinations, due to its rich culture including traditional tea ceremonies and geisha districts in Kyoto.
Where is still on your bucket list?
I have a very long bucket list including witnessing the Northern Lights in Iceland and staying in an overwater bungalow in the Maldives.
