Karl Tailby is an explorer extraordinaire, and proudly leads the team at Travel Associates Balgowlah - Cruise Boutique. He has trekked Mt Kilimanjaro, glamped through Tanzania, snowboarded in Alaska, walked with Lions in Mauritius and snorkeled with Whale Sharks in Mexico.
He says he could go on and on and on (yes please!) but that he would rather spend time exploring ways to create the dream journeys of his clients.
With over 17 years in the travel industry, Karl is not only one of the best-travelled people you could meet, but he has also developed the kind of diversity of travel experience and knowledge that makes him an absolutely indispensable asset as a trusted travel advisor.
He has travelled extensively throughout the world as an independent, solo traveler and has spent time adventuring with family, and exploring with friends across entire continents including North America, Asia, the Pacific and Africa.
He says his favourite holiday involves skiing and snowboarding, offering to talk for hours about his hobby!
Most importantly, Karl believes that whatever type of traveller you are, or whoever you share your travels with, he believes that his experience, knowledge, passion, pride and of course trust are the key elements that have allowed him to foster enduring client relationships.

What is the most amazing experience you have created for a client?
I once booked for clients who believed it was their last trip (they were in their 80s). Beginning in South Africa, they stayed in the Sabi Sands reserve, and travelled through to Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. They stopped for a premium tour in Morocco before moving into Spain, enjoyed a Viking river cruise, and finally, a 2 week exploration of the English countryside, with private drivers and personalised excursions.
What are your favourite destinations and why?
Africa is unparalleled for its wildlife experiences. Watching the Big Five roam freely in the Serengeti or Maasai Mara is awe-inspiring, and a sunrise game drive is pure magic. Snow destinations in Canada, the USA, and Japan are a favourite, and of course, Europe: a mosaic of vibrant cultures and hidden gems.
How do you go above and beyond for your clients?
I believe every journey should be as unique as the individual taking it, which is why I prioritise getting to know my clients' preferences, passions, and travel dreams, and create itineraries tailored specifically to them. I also add thoughtful touches and exclusive experiences that elevate their journey like hidden gems they wouldn’t find on their own.
Where is still on your bucket list?
I'd love to hike the W trek in Patagonia. It looks so unbelievably beautiful with its dramatic landscapes and rugged beauty.
