Sally Andrews from Russell & Turner Travel Associates recently experienced an independent tour of exotic Oman.
Combining breathtaking beauty with well preserved cultural heritage the Sultanate of Oman is one of the least known yet most exciting destinations in the Middle-East.
I stayed at Golden Tulip Resort in Khasab, the capital of the Musandam Peninsula and gateway to stunning fjord scenery. A 4WD mountain tour and snorkelling were highlights in Khasab. Historical Niswa is the home of the famous Old Fort built in 17th century and is a perfect place to visit souk. A city tour of Muscat included the ornate Grand Mosque and the bustling Muttrah Souk in Muscat. A highlight of the trip was turtles laying eggs on the beach in Ras al Hadd under the desert skies.
Only a short distance from Dubai, Oman, and the Middle East in general, is definitely worth a visit. The scenery was very dramatic and barren - although not if you travel in January / February. The food was fantastic and it was amazing to learn so much about such a different culture. The Omani people are very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend Oman for a holiday and will be going back.
