Peter Williams from Williams & Turner Travel Associates recently spent five nights at the Taj Exotica Resort and Spa in the Maldives, after a luxurious stopover in Dubai.
Our trip began with Emirates flying business class via Dubai. Although not the most direct way of getting to the Maldives, this is a fantastic way to do it. We enjoyed a two night stopover, staying at the almost surreal Burj Al Arab, a 321m tall ‘seven star’ hotel completely surrounded by water. Needless to say this was an incredible experience and something I can highly recommend if you ever get the chance.
At the five star Taj Exotica Resort and Spa in the Maldives, we were lucky enough to stay in one of their deluxe overwater bungalows. This included all the modern luxuries plus a private plunge pool, outdoor shower, and steps from the private back deck into the sparkling blue water. The area is fantastic for snorkelling. You can either swim straight off from your back deck or enjoy an organised snorkelling trip to one of the island’s secluded beaches.
There’s nothing more pleasant than kicking back with a cocktail in your own private plunge pool or one of the resort’s pools or spas. The resort also offers a sunset cruise which is a great way to take in the island’s sights while enjoying a glass of champagne. The Maldives is one of the true relaxation capitals of the world, and the Taj Exotica Resort and Spa exemplifies this like no other.
This destination is ideal for honeymooners and couples seeking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I’d recommend staying for about four or five days. It’s also a good idea to book at least a half board package so that some of your meals are included. The food is presented immaculately and tastes even better. The only problem I had with the Taj Exotica Resort and Spa was leaving.
