Top 10 Beaches to Visit This Summer

21st November 2012

Summer is just around the corner which means the heat is on to organise your summer holiday. While local seaside haunts such as Bondi, Lorne and the Gold Coast are obvious choices, they aren’t the only ones. Get away from it all (including the crowds) and feel like you’ve had a true holiday by booking a beach holiday away. Here are our top ten recommendations:  Motu Akitua Private Island, Cook Islands A world away from Bondi and the Gold Coast, Motu Akitua in the Cook Islands is a pristine and private island home to Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa. As the only private island resort in the Cook Islands, the 4-star Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa is incredibly private and romantic.

Whitehaven Beach, The Whitsundays, Australia - Qualia Closer to home, consider soaking up some sunshine at Whitehaven Beach, one of Australia’s most famous beaches. The crystal clear beach is one of the largest in the Whitsundays, stretching over 7 kilometres long. For beachside accommodation at its best, stay at the 5-star resort Qualia which has 60 freestanding pavilions each boasting private sundecks or infinity edge plunge pools.

Ratua Private Island, Vanuatu For something a little more rugged and off the beaten track, you’ll love Ratua Private Island, home to a barefoot luxury eco-resort. Spanning 60 hectares, the island boasts beautiful beaches as well as free-range horses, cattle, sheep and chickens, combining luxury accommodation with a raw and authentic island atmosphere.

Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia A tropical retreat amongst spectacular natural beauty, Lizard Island is where you’ll find the most northern Great Barrier Reef resort. Thanks to its location, the island’s 24 powdery white beaches are not only fantastic for swimming but snorkelling as well. Dive the island’s coral reefs or sit back and relax at the all-inclusive resort - what summer holidays are made of.

Likuliku, Fiji A long favourite for holidays in the South Pacific, the 5-star Likuliku Lagoon Resort is the perfect place to relax, rewind, recharge and enjoy the view. A view that is particularly stunning when admired from one of 10 overwater bungalows, lying suspended in the middle of the lagoon.

South Ari Atoll, Maldives If an exotic beach holiday is more your style then consider a week or four in the Maldives. The Ari Atoll is one of the biggest atolls in the archipelago and is home to beautiful beaches and resorts. On the southern region, the Centara Grand Island 4.5 star resort is where you can enjoy beach swimming, snorkelling and barefoot luxury complete with onsite dining options, bars, lounges, recreation activities and a kid’s club.

Marara Beach, Bora Bora, Tahiti Famed as one of the most beautiful tropical spots in the world, Bora Bora is home to sweeping white beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters. While there’s no shortage of luxury accommodation to choose from, it’s hard to resist the idyllic spot of the Sofitel on Marara Beach.

Hayman Island, The Whitsundays, Australia If au-naturale is more you’re beach holiday style then head to the natural paradise that is Hayman Island Resort. With a magical location in the Great Barrier Reef, the island’s resort holds the title of Australasia’s most awarded luxury nature-resort. Indulge in an ocean massage, enjoy a signature creation at The Chef’s Table or simply explore the island’s nature trails and admire the magnificent views and wildlife including Proserpine Rock Wallabies.

Kauai Beach, Hawaii, USA Dreaming of surfing this summer? Then the waves of Hawaii await you. While technically Hawaii experiences winter during the December and January break, the days are still warm and the beaches are still inviting. The crowds however, are also ever present during this time. To escape the hordes, stay away from Waikiki and Oahu all together and opt for a resort on Kauai like Kauai Beach Resort, located along a sprawling 5 kilometre beach.

Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas, Australia With fantastic access to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest, Four Mile Beach is ideal for getting amongst the action or simply lazing on the sand. To stay at the beloved beach, book a room at the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas for 5-star luxury amongst rugged surrounds.
