Queenstown, located in the South Island of New Zealand, is a wonderful destination for a winter escape.
Not only is the town itself a gorgeous and charming location, it's in close proximity to a range of beautiful ski fields you'll just love to zoom down whether you're a skier or a boarder.
Here is some more information about how you can make the most of a holiday in Queenstown - New Zealand's very own winter wonderland.
Coronet Peak
Coronet Peak is only 20 minutes from Queenstown, and with a skiable area of around 280 hectares it has something for everybody.
If you're new to snow sports you can rent gear and hire an instructor or partake in group lessons to ensure you get the hang of the basics. There are designated areas for learners so you won't need to worry about experts rushing by.
Those whose skills are a bit more advanced can enjoy thrilling, high-altitude slopes, exciting and varied terrain and extended hours that make Coronet Peak a great place to ski and board.
All in all, 25 per cent of the mountain trails and terrain caters for beginners, 45 per cent for intermediates and 30 per cent for advanced and Black Bowl skiers - so there is truly plenty to do.
When you work up an appetite on your choice of trail there's definitely a lot to satiate you on the mountain, with hot chocolates, pizza and pasta galore. Make sure you check out the event calendar as many wonderful festivals are held here, such as the Queenstown Winter Festival. If you can coordinate your visit with one of these events, you're sure to have an extra special time.
Night skiing is another thrilling experience to partake in on this mountain. There's nothing like seeing the starry night sky from these slopes!
The Remarkables
Only a little further afield than Coronet Peak, the Remarkables mountain range is a picturesque 45 minute drive from Queenstown.
You will have 220 hectares of snowy slopes to ski or board down, with a fairly equal split between beginner, intermediate and advanced territory. That means you can choose to slide down gentle slopes or whiz down dramatic, steep black diamond runs!
There's plenty more to do on the mountain with live entertainment during the weekend and a cafe and bar so you can always refresh yourself with a hot beverage or meal.
The Remarkables range is also great for families, so bring the whole clan along for a trip to remember.
