Hamilton Island Race Week is fast approaching, so now is the perfect time to claim your place at the social event of the season.
Taking place from 16 to 25 August, it is the most prestigious event in the Hamilton Island calendar and one of Australia’s premier luxury event experiences. First held in 1984, Hamilton Island Race Week has grown steadily in popularity to become Australia’s largest off-shore keelboat regatta, attracting more than 200 boats and 2000 sailors each year. Yet it is the events that run alongside this world-class regatta that attract VIPs, celebrities and those in the know.
The most highly sought-after events are held at qualia, Hamilton Island’s most luxurious resort. On Saturday 17 August, the first major event hosted at qualia will be a dinner served up by Chef Lennox Hastie, dubbed Australia’s most progressive chef. He cooks exclusively with fire in his Sydney restaurant, so expect this to be qualia’s take on the World’s Best BBQ.
Dinner with Peter Gilmore, Quay restaurant, presented by Travel Associates
The following night enjoy fine dining from one Australia’s most celebrated chefs, Peter Gilmore, owner of Quay and more recently Bennelong in Sydney. Start the evening with Peter’s signature Cured & Cultured Bar, followed by a two-course dinner in qualia’s stunning Long Pavilion, with live modern jazz entertainment adding to the festive mood.
The final weekend brings Race Week to a close with the ultimate long lunch experience: The Paspaley Luncheon
On Friday 23 August, qualia’s Pebble Beach is the venue for an exquisite sit-down luncheon. Start with drinks, champagne and canapes by the pool followed by a delicious three-course menu created by qualia Executive Chef Mark Jenson. The long lunch usually extends into the early evening, often ending with dancing on the beach. Expect a surprise Paspaley experience – a secret … only ever revealed at the lunch.
