Fun in the Sun, Fiji Style

31st October 2014

Emma Lucas from Connelly & Turner Travel Associates in Malvern, Victoria jumped at the chance for an exotic island escape when Tourism Fiji and Fiji Mainlands and Islands offered to host a family trip to the beautiful island nation.  Enjoying the famous Fijian hospitality onboard Fiji Airways, Emma landed in Nadi ready to explore. But with so much to see and do in this tropical playground, the itinerary called for some action packed days of adventure and fun in the sun, a challenge that Emma was only too happy to accept. After all, someone has to do it, right?

So Many Islands, So Little Time

“It was interesting how different each group of islands are from each other,” said Emma. Flying into the main island of Viti Levu, with its populous villages and built up areas, there is more of a developed, urban feel to it. But it is here where tourists will find many of the big name resorts and convenient family activities close by. Denarau is the island’s exotic beach front attraction. Just 20 minutes from the international airport, guests will quickly find themselves soaking up the glorious Fiji rays on a pristine white sand beach or pool side at one of the luxury beachfront resorts or high rise hotels. For a convenient, fun filled place to get away from it all, Denarau is the mainland’s number one hotspot.

Just a short ferry or helicopter ride away is the magnificent island chain of the Mamanucas. Live coral reefs offer some of the best snorkelling in Fiji and the crystal clear waters offer ideal conditions for swimming or water sports like surfing or parasailing. And with so many beaches to choose from, visitors are sure to find that secluded oasis to get away from it all.

Lose Yourself in Paradise

For those looking for a secluded hideaway in the most natural, unspoilt Fijian setting, head to the country’s second biggest island, Vanua Levu.

Featuring hidden bays and remote resorts and villas, Vanua Levu offers the ultimate nature experience. Fiji’s Wasali Nature Reserve is a lush, untouched rainforest complete with winding, easy to navigate hiking trails and lookouts with breathtaking views. And on an island with so few people, there is just more beach to go around. Palm tree lined beaches line the coast and visitors can explore in solitude all day long.

As Emma found, Fiji is a beautifully diverse destination, where visitors can soak up the Fijian culture in the markets and villages of the mainland or become immersed in the gorgeous natural wonders found on any of the nearby islands. Lose yourself in peaceful seclusion or enjoy the nonstop activities at any of the popular hotels and resorts. Emma’s adventurous spirit certainly paid off. Just add sun, sand and surf and it’s sure to be a holiday to remember no matter where you choose to stay.
