To celebrate, Travel Associates air experts list five great reasons to fly Qantas first class.

SPACE

On a long-haul flight, space is a valuable commodity. While passengers in economy sit three or four abreast, those in first class can stretch out in a private pod that is the equivalent to around four economy seats wide and two deep. The cabin holds a maximum of just 15 people and the ceilings are void of overhead lockers further enhancing the sense of space afforded to first class fliers. After take-off, the seats swivel off centre to transform into a comfortable armchair with an enhanced, embedded massage system,

SLEEP

Sleep-time in first class signals the start of the luxurious bedding down ritual. All passengers receive a deluxe, cotton sleeper suit, slippers and socks while flight attendants make up the beds, transforming the pods into a sleep-inducing haven with fluffy pillows, blankets and a sheepskin-covered mattress. These spacious, fully flat beds are extra wide and long, allowing passengers the space to stretch out, while controls in the armrest ensure maximum comfort and pod partitions provide privacy.

SAVOUR

Food is a focus in First class. Qantas elevates the in-flight dining experience with restaurant quality meals made to order from a menu designed by Neil Perry. There is an eight-course tasting menu if you are feeling indulgent, but diners can also order al la carte from a selection of signature dishes. For those who want to complete their meal with a wine or glass of champagne, Qantas’ Sommeliers in the Sky are on hand to recommend a complimentary option from one of the award winning tipples stocked in First class. In the A380, first suites are designed for dual dining should customers wish to invite another first class passenger to dine with them.

SLIP OUT

Unlike the crush to leave the plane from economy, the exit process is a serene from first class. These passengers are first to depart the plane where a First Host awaits to escort them with ease and priority through immigration thanks to the Express Pass. Their bags are among the first ready for collection and a chauffeur services is primed to take them onward in the destination.

SIGHT

In a world first, Qantas and Samsung launched a new entertainment service utilising virtual reality technology to give customers a spectacular, three-dimensional experience in a 360 degree interactive format. The headsets are available to first class passengers on the A380 service and the only travellers to experience virtual reality entertainment in-flight with options to watch the latest blockbuster movies or see the sights of destinations serviced on Qantas’ route network.
